TITLE: Bus Driver
REPORTS TO: Director/Asst. Director of Transportation
JOB GOAL: To provide safe and efficient transportation so that students may enjoy the fullest possible advantage from the district’s curriculum and extracurricular activities.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Serve as a bus driver
- Performs other job related duties as assigned by his/her immediate supervisor.
- Obeys all traffic laws.
- Observes all mandatory safety regulations for school buses.
- Maintains discipline of students on bus according to the method prescribed by the driver manual.
- Reports undisciplined students to the proper authority.
- Keeps assigned bus clean.
- Keeps to assigned route and schedule.
- Checks bus before each operation as required by pre-trip inspection.
- Maintains proper level of fuel and fluids in bus.
- Notifies the proper authority in case of mechanical failure or lateness.
- Discharges students only as described in the Driver Manual.
- Exercises responsible leadership when on out-of-district school trips.
- Transports only authorized students.
- Reports all accidents and completes required reports.
- Enforces regulations specified in the School Bus Drivers Manual as approved by the State and Local Boards of Education.
- Other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Valid operator’s License (CDL required).
- S endorsement
- Must pass all requirements of the State and Russell Independent Board of Education.
- Positive character references.
- Ability to work with other drivers and assist in their training.
- Kentucky certified school bus driver trainer or willing to complete the course within one year.
- Such other alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
- Satisfactory completion of State mandated health examination.
EVALUATION:
- Performance of this job will be evaluated by the Director of Transportation.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- Salary commensurate with the Russell Independent Schools Classified Salary Schedule.
